It all starts in Italy, in a small town in the mountainous region of Piedmont, located equidistance from the Swiss mountains and Milan. Here, a world-renowned mill spins the very best fine Italian Merino yarn that will be knitted into the complex graphic design.

Designed in the DVF design studio in New York, the knit design is created using state of the art computer technology. Various colorways are determined: black and ivory for an impactful monochromatic combination; a charcoal grey and black for a more subtle iteration; and deep violet and black for a dark and dramatic pairing.

A computer file containing the design is sent to the factory where a digital technician programs a super high tech Japanese knitting machine. This specialist 18-gauge machine is able to create complex intarsia patterns and execute complex knits, such as the compact and substantial Milano stitch used here, that allows the garment to hold its shape as it contours the body. A custom design has a pointelle hole along the sleeves and hem. Once various sections of the garment are complete, a hand-loaded circular linking machine is used for the finest finish.

Together, expert artisanal craftsmanship and innovative technology create a truly unique piece.
