The Craft of Sequins
Continuing with our #DVFCraft series, we uncover the design process behind our shimmering, black and blue Sleeveless Tailored Paneled Dress.
To begin, the silhouette of the dress is sketched by hand. The image is then scanned and transferred to a computer to manipulate and trial color combinations. White muslin toile pattern pieces are then draped on a mannequin to finalize the fit and silhouette of the dress.
To create the sequin fabric, a specialist machine sews rows of densely packed, 3mm metallic blue sequins onto a black stretch base. Formulated specifically with one-way stretch only, the figure-skimming sequin fabric allows you to sit comfortably without the dress losing its shape.
Black stretch satin is then cut into vertical panels and sewn between the sequin fabric to create a body-contouring princess seam, to emphasize and elongate the silhouette. For extra ease of movement, the vertical seams split at the hem into seductive slits.
The finished Sleeveless Tailored Paneled Dress is a compelling and beautiful Fall 17 evening option.
